We do not offer non-anesthetic dental cleanings (NADs) at our hospital. While they may seem like a less stressful option, NADs only clean the visible surface of the teeth and can miss or delay the diagnosis of serious dental disease that lies below the gumline. They also come with risks, including stress and potential aspiration.
For your pet’s safety and long-term health, we follow veterinary guidelines that recommend anesthetic dental cleanings. These allow us to perform a complete oral exam, take X-rays, clean beneath the gumline, and address any underlying issues—all while keeping your pet comfortable and pain-free.
If you have concerns about anesthesia or want to know if your pet is due for a cleaning, we’re happy to talk through it with you. You can also click here to read more about the benefits of anesthetic dental cleanings for pets.
